Shop Small Campaign 2017

As a business we have started to receive information on American Express’s hugely successful Shop Small Campaign.

Like many others my husband and I have a big family and no time to Christmas shop! We rely on Amazon and other large online retailers for most of it, as it makes it all so easy. This might be seem  hypocritical when as an independent business owner I know all too well how tough it is to compete against online shopping and in the current climate how unpredictable running a small business can be. However, I always insist on making sure at least one of my gifts to a relative (and I’m often inspired to buy more) is bought from a shop on a high street or at a Christmas market from a truly independent business.

I respect people that can shun the ease of online shopping and spend time looking out for individual gifts from different shops, this can take time and often can get expensive. But if everyone bought just one or two gifts, perhaps something quirky for that hard to buy for aunt or cousin then these small shops that add so much value to an area and people love to browse in, can have a good end to what’s been a tricky year for many.

By only aiming for one item it takes the pressure off and is a realistic goal. So many of us will be visiting Christmas lights switch on’s and Christmas markets on our High Streets so it’s a great time to pop into that shop you love to look around and take the plunge on one item.

American Express Shop small campaign runs from Saturday 2nd December to Sunday 17th December.

There is free parking in towns and villages across the country on Saturday 2nd December. New Forest District Council have also designated 23rd and 24th December as free parking and in Brockenhurst Friday 8th December will also be free parking.

If you are an American Express cardholder you get cash back made on purchases in shops taking part. For registration and more details follow the link

Ps. Have you ever noticed how many small independent businesses have an American Express Shop Small open/close sign on their door? Next time you’re on a local High St see how many you can spot!
