Kate is a self taught artist living and working in Penwith, Cornwall. She is drawn to paint colourful rock faces, springtime flowers and cliff tops, hedgerows and landscapes. Her work conveys the drama of the landscape with heavy skies behind windblown trees and often captures the unique patchwork quality of English farmland.
Like many artists, her work carries an emotional element which reflects her description of the process of painting as simultaneously cathartic, meditative, explorative and exhilarating. She observes that her most successful pieces are often borne from angst or elation. She is curious about the direction of her style and gains immeasurable satisfaction from developing her techniques and approach. Her latest work increasingly features gold leaf, suggesting those special moments when the sun breaks through and the countryside glistens.
